Bike Tours for the Wounded

I was contacted recently via the club web site and via Email on behalf of a charitable organization called Bike Tours for the Wounded. I have posted the Email in full for members to checkout  what they do and decide if they wish to support the work that they do. For myself, I think it is a worthy cause. Contact links to Bike Tours for the Wounded web site and Facebook page are at the foot of the below Email.

Good Morning,

My name is Gordon and I am writing to you from a charitable organisation called Bike Tours for the Wounded. I will be contacting you soon to discuss my email. We are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (C.I.C) based in Burton- on-Trent that provides direct and indirect support to both serving members and veterans of the UK armed forces.

We provide support to our beneficiaries by taking them on a trip of a lifetime, riding pillion on a motorcycle in the USA and Europe.  Bike Tours for the Wounded supports all services and all ranks of those who have served our country. Whether they are wounded, injured or sick where their injury, physical or mental condition is/was considered to be career or life limiting, including veterans.

We are contacting you as a fellow organisation that supports our military personnel as we are always looking to support those in need. With this in mind, we currently have places on our 2019 tours in the USA and 2020 tour to Normandy for the D-Day commemorations. BT4TW will fund any military personnel either serving or veteran to join us on one of these tours if they have a medical discharge, war pension or chronic/terminal illness related to their military service. This can be anything from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and brain injuries to physical impairments, amputations or paralysis.

Our tours really do change lives, to date we have supported and continue to support over 300 beneficiaries before, during and after the tour. Many of those we have supported have publicly stated that they wouldn’t be alive today without the support we have provided. We have two tours available in the USA, both of which start and finish in Las Vegas; firstly, a tour called The Best of Route 66 which visits amazing places and attractions along the iconic Route 66. The second tour is called The Wild West which takes in the breath-taking scenery of the “Old West” as well as a visit to the iconic OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona.

The only cost to our beneficiaries is the cost of the return flight from the UK to the USA.

Below are the dates for our tours in 2019

Best of Route 66 Wounded Warrior Challenge: 7th- 17th May & 20th- 30th August

The Wild West Wounded Warrior Challenge:  31st August - 10th September

If you know of anyone you feel would be interested in what we have to offer and could potentially benefit from joining us then please do give them our details. Don’t forget we are always looking for experienced riders to join us on our challenges to carry our beneficiaries as pillion, so if you have the time, experience and money to do so, why not make your next biking holiday a very special one. We have some fantastic events planned this year for the whole family to get involved, details for all of our fund raising events can be located on our website and Facebook page.

UK Motorbike Map

I was sent this recently by Patrick Langridge - its an interactive map that is being developed especially for motorcyclists which can be used as a resource to discover local clubs to join, (and yes Yarm Motorcycling Club is listed). It also features a host of other useful information such as motorcycle cafes, popular bike routes, events etc.

Patrick would appreciate any feedback you can send regarding additions/improvements etc. and can be contacted via email at:

A Message From The Secretary

 Hello All.

While we  wait for the Rideout Programme to begin again, and indeed, after it has  finished, it has been suggested that club members can meet at the Yarm Town Hall at 10 o'clock on the first Sunday of the month and mosey-on  down to Osbourne’s for a chin-wag/gossip etc. (Osbourne’s is located in Yarm town centre approx 200mts from the Town Clock on the L/H side).

So, to keep up with the goings on why not pop down this Sunday and catch up with the latest news.

Regards.  Brian

Kirkby Stephen

Krusty’s Bike Barn

A new bike shop has recently opened in Kirkby Stephen, namely Krusty’s Bike Barn. Located on the main road through near to the traffic signals.  Specialising  in cruisers of all makes and types there is also a cafe/snack bar located within the shop. Opening times are 10:00am to 17:00pm 7 days a week so when in Kirkby Stephen why not call in even if just for a coffee and a chat. (Krusty does a decent cup of coffee for less than half the price of a Costa so that alone should be reason enough.

The Buck Inn - Chop Gate - Biker Friendly

Below is the text of an Email recently received by the Club Secretary, Brian Burke, from the owners of the Buck Inn at Chop Gate. (Definately worth stopping for a coffee at least, rather than pay the parking charge at Helmsley).

My name is Wolfgang Barth. My wife Helen and I bought the Buck Inn here in Chop Gate ( TS9 7JL) Two years ago and have been renovating it ever since. Two of your members came to lunch yesterday and suggested to write to you. We are members of motogoloco  which is a biker friendly website and informs  you where to go and where to be able to stay throughout UK. Also the Yesteryears are meeting here every Sunday morning.                                                                                                                         Please have a look at our web site:  or go to   http://www.motogoloco Every Saturday afternoon we are having either Hog or  Spit roast , or just a BBQ. Our Sunday roasts are well known around here since we offer 6 different meats. I thought it might be a great idea to pay us a visit since we are ideally situated between Stokesley and Helmsley.

Best regards

Wolfgang, Helen and the team
